Join members of the New England Resilience & Transition (NERT) Network in piloting the “Omnivore’s Delight” Diet Challenge!

Omnivore's Delight graphicFood Solutions New England (FSNE) has a vision: that New England produce half of its own food by 2060, "50 by 60". Currently only 12% of our food is grown regionally, so getting to 50% will take work at the systemic and policy levels.

But what will it look like at the individual level? In order to eat more of New England's bounty, our diets will shift to what FSNE calls the "Ominvore's Delight Diet."

The diet does look truly delightful (see details to the right), and members of the New England Resilience & Transition network want to try it out. They're going to do an experiment to find out: what's it like to eat the Omnivore's Delight diet for one week?

Please join the experiment!  Take the pledge to eat the Omnivore's Delight Diet for one week!

From September 15 – 21,* members of NERT will be following the Omnivore’s Delight as laid out by Food Solutions New England. If widely adopted, this diet would allow New England to produce 50% of its own food here in the region. Read more about what the diet looks like here.

Pledge to Try the Diet! Here’s what that means:

  1. Eat the dietary guidelines outlined here
  2. Reflect on how it goes! Keep a journal or post your thoughts on Slack. Your reflections are vital — even more so than whether or not you conform 100% to the diet. Reflect on everything that seems relevant — how hard or easy it is, how much it costs, what you miss, what you like, etc.
  3. Share your feedback! Fill out the online survey by September 23 (link forthcoming) and/or join us for a wrap-up conversation on Monday, September 26 at noon. You will receive more details and links once you fill out the form here.

The Omnivore's Delight Diet Challenge is part of NERT's ongoing Collective Inquiry on Food. So far they've had two rounds of conversation on all things food. They're also offering a conversation on the role seafood in a sustainable regional diet on Tuesday, September 20 at noon. Read more about the Collective Inquiry and sign up here.
