Which images would you prefer your child see every day in school?
Unfortunately, companies are able to do exactly what you see on the left, in schools right here in CT! It’s time we make sure children aren’t being bombarded by junk food marketing in schools. Schools should be a place dedicated to learning, and parents’ efforts to raise healthy children shouldn’t be undermined by unhealthy food marketing in schools.
With childhood obesity being a major concern for families and communities across CT, doing our part to make sure children are protected from the marketing of unhealthy food and beverages in school can help create healthier school environments, which is why we would like to extend this special invitation to join us for an in-person advocate training focused on school marketing.
Tuesday, March 29th, 2016
American Heart Association
5 Brookside Drive
Wallingford, CT 06492
6:00 – 7:30 P.M.
Heart-healthy dinner 6:00 – 6:30 PM
Training 6:30 – 7:30 PM
During this training, you will meet with other advocates and American Heart Association government relations team members to discuss the junk food marketing in schools issue – why it’s a problem, how it’s impacting our kids, the ways companies are targeting children, and why it makes sense to stop it. You will also be empowered to go out in your community to advocate for change. We will provide you with a toolkit full of educational information and a survey you can use to gauge what is happening in your local schools.
This is just the start of our efforts to create a healthier environment for children in CT, so we hope you will join with us and lead the charge in your community.
To RSVP, please contact school marketing campaign coordinator Jessica Mahon at Jessica.mahon@heart.org.
