The purpose of this course is to facilitate discussion and awareness of human beings’ connection and responsibility to our environment. We will look at how this relationship is understood and practiced in a number of global faith traditions. We will discuss how the teachings relate to equity and the concept of Environmental Justice.
This course is open to everyone!
Course Agenda:
● An overview of different faith traditions and their respective connections to nature (Buddhism, Orisha traditions, Wicca/Paganism, Native American traditions, etc.)
● Monotheistic Tradition of Human Stewardship of the Planet (Judaism, Christianity, Islam)
● Concepts of Equity and Environmental Justice
● Open Discussion/Q&A
About The Instructor:
Isa is a practicing Sunni Muslim and community organizer. He founded CTCOREOrganize Now! (Community Organizing for Racial Equity) in January of 2016 after working as a community organizer in CT for 10+ years. Isa has worked for the Bridgeport Dept of Health as a lead paint inspector, where worked to build pubilc, private and civic partnerships to advance environmental justice. He chaired an EPA-fundedenvironmental justice collaborative in Bridgeport and worked with CCEJ (CT Coalition for Environmantal Justice) as a member of FCEJN (Fairfield County Environmental Justice Network to pass an Environmental Justice bill in CT. He also participated in Food Solutions New England's first Network Leadership Institute.
