Event Description
This training will cover key aspects of developing a customized food safety manual for your farm that complies with the USDA Harmonized GAP standards for field, harvest and post-harvest operations. We will take you step by step through the process, provide you with templates for your manual – food safety plan, risk assessments, standard operating procedures, and logs - and answer your questions. There will be a focus on streamlining your plan and your record keeping, and designing an efficient program.
Registration will be open from 1/28/2017 to 3/10/2017 at noon.
Speaker & Host Information
Lindsay Gilmour, Organic Planet LLC and GAP Food Safety Educator
Lindsay has more than 12 years in Value Chain Coordination, helping farmers meet the demands of the wholesale marketplace. Her current focus is GAP food safety education. She is trained in Produce GAPs Harmonized Food Safety Standards, is a qualified USDA internal auditor for the Harmonized Standards, and an internal auditor for ISO quality management systems for agricultural operations. She is a trainer for the FDA Produce Safety Rule, and is a “qualified individual” under the FDA Preventative Controls regulation. Lindsay is very excited about helping farmers work together to achieve food safety certification. She and Jeff Stoltzfus co-managed a USDA Pilot in PA, successfully shepherding 100+ Amish farmers through USDA Group GAP certification. In 2016 Lindsay worked on a project in Mississippi, creating a USDA approved ‘single-entity management’ food safety program for a small farm cooperative. She is currently working with Chesapeake Harvest in Maryland, helping them develop a Group GAP program for their grower network.
