Need help finishing up a parabolic solar hot water heater

i hope this is the correct forum for this post. If not, please feel free to move it.

Well, this is where we are at. We are a small team trying to finish up a parabolic solar hot water heater.

It has been adapted from different ideas from the internet and as such, we have run into a couple of design snags.

Email bug on FarmHack.net fixed! Check your spam box. Future mail will end up in your inbox.

Hi everyone,

I've heard rumors and suspicions that notification emails from FarmHack.net were not going through and they were absolutely right. We were getting thrown into spam boxes because we weren't jumping through enough hoops to prove that we weren't a spam site. I enlisted the folks at SendGrid to send out our emails notifications for us so we don't have to jump through the hoops, they've got it covered!

Need "new posts" listing

Many forums on the web have a New Posts listing - you click on it and see what's been most recently posted in all threads and subforums. It would be good, if possible, to have that here. (Maybe there is some provision for that here, and I just haven't found it?)

I find it very frustrating - particularly in low-activity periods - to come here and not find a new-posts listing. I seem to waste some time just looking around for some recent date-of-post.

Please excuse this comment if there is some provision for finding new posts here, and I just haven't found it.

Clicking on link "Albert Rogers" loads wrong user profile

I am Bill Spurlock (Fram Hack user name Sunny Slope Orchard), and happened to click on the user name "Albert Rogers" in this forum topic: http://farmhack.org/forums/aerial-mapping-and-soil-analysis-meetup-may-2012-lee-nh When I do so I see MY user profile (Sunny Slope Orchard) loaded, and the URL shown is: http://farmhack.org/users/albert-rogers

Some tool wikis are not showing up

I was looking for the "rover-remote-electric-fence-switch-text-message" tool post in the main list, and it was not there (did a text search to make sure I wasn't mistaken. Then I did a google search and found it where it should be http://farmhack.org/tools/rover-remote-electric-fence-switch-text-message - but still not in the menu.

Open-Source vs Licensing: How to recoup development costs

Prototyping can be a painful (and expensive) experience! The first Farm Hack event I attended at MIT had a focus (at least as I remember it) of trying to get farmers and engineers together to develop new technology. The conversation since then has shifted primarily to farmers documenting their projects. It can be helpful to suggest when writing a grant that you will document your project on Farm Hack, in the sense that the institution with the funding is looking for the greatest possible return on their investment.

RATS! rodents and other urban vermin

Issue: In the context of highly limited space (urban gardens, community gardens), physical barriers are the most efficient and effective way to address rodent issues. Rodent Repellent Plants are too space and resource intensive, and don't necessarily guarantee unwanted guests.

Parameters: Cannot be too porous but needs to allow for light and access and water. Rats can jump and climb 3' high, burrow past 1 inch of space around plant base, chew through most organic material, landscape fabrics, etc. Rat Information Portal : http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/rats/home.shtml
