Bring back the blog!

I know that it's been a question in the community about whether having a curated blog reflects the intention of a flat structure for farmhack. I just wanted to weigh in on the side of having a blog for the community. A curated space allows the community leadership (even within a flat structure) to provide suggestions about where the community might look for inspiration, etc. This is a natural outgrowth of community members taking on different roles for themselves within a self-regulating community.

Need "new posts" listing

Many forums on the web have a New Posts listing - you click on it and see what's been most recently posted in all threads and subforums. It would be good, if possible, to have that here. (Maybe there is some provision for that here, and I just haven't found it?)

I find it very frustrating - particularly in low-activity periods - to come here and not find a new-posts listing. I seem to waste some time just looking around for some recent date-of-post.

Please excuse this comment if there is some provision for finding new posts here, and I just haven't found it.

Handheld plant health tool, open beta

I wanted to let folks know about the Photosynq (www.photosynq.org) beta test which is open for applications! Photosynq is a low cost, open source platform for taking handheld measurements of plant, soil, and seed health. Our goal is to create a network of low cost, hand-held measurement devices which researchers, educators, and citizen scientists can use to build a global database of plant health.

Refrigerated Box Truck

Hi group,

I just finished a tool post about the reefer truck I put together over the last two years: [a link] http://farmhack.org/tools/refrigerated-box-truck.

I'm new to farmhack and wiki stuff in general so I ask for your patience with my formatting skills. Hopefully the article is set up in a useful way - please hit me with any suggestions.

Thanks, and keep up the great work! Ole Bye, Owner Local Food Logic LLC Dolores, CO

Simplifying the Site for New Users

The website should be organized by technologies, not tools or groups or forum.

A technology is something like welding. Different groups or browsers will be interested in that conversation and will join. Related tools and organization could be listed in the welding section.

Right now, it is a little complicated the way we display tools. There are about a dozen different categories and I propose we reduce them to: - Farming Practices - Welding - Electronics, from circuits to solar panels - Open-source, online collaboration, and Farm Hack website
