RFID

My origninal thoughts about locating cattle, etc. were to use the method we use for locating underwater devices: triangulation of three angles derived from the phase relationships of signals sent from the tracked object to three (or more) base stations. This method is in contrast to JBD's method of calculating position by the tracked object of time differences of signals sent from the base stations. The time difference (again using phase relationships) give distances. Three distances (like three angles) from base stations with known positions will give a location.

Open Source Multi-Planter

I've begun work to create a simple, scalable Open-Source Multi Planter suitable for large seeds and roots, including potatoes, garlic, onions, shallots, hazels, walnuts, etc. Version 2.0 will include a rotor for transplanting, Version 1.0 will nail my immediate needs first (garlic).

EASY The majority of components are off the shelf. Very little welding on this one, as I want to make the design accessible for everyone.

TOOLBAR Repurposing an old 3-point row crop cultivator ($70, auction, market value) for its toolbar, 3 pt mount, and cheap steel.

Downloading and printing images from tool wiki

It would be nice to be able to easily download or format images in the tool wiki (and forums) for full resolution printing. There was a request by a fabricator for this - and it is possible to get to the original image but it looks like it has to be by going through the edit wiki function?z

SatUplink Shield in Lieu of Cell Phone

With a $99 annual fee, it could be spendier than the cell-phone method, but seems to be far more robust and will work on farms outside of good cell phone coverage. You can't program it remotely, as it only talks one way, so I would think of this as a separate branch of the project. Regardless could still be super valuable.

cold weather/movability tips from southern sweden

My girlfriend's father farms in southern Sweden (near Växjö) and grows extensively in mobile greenhouses and uses them to house both his sheep in the winter, and his chickens. he has 6-10 of the same design.

Mobility: being in logging country, he mounts the each frame to two whole tree trunks running the length of the house. These serve both as weights (so it won't blow away) and as sledges, so he can drag the entire hoop house with his tractor.
