Machine for hulling peanuts

Hi, I am new to farmhack forum.  I work in a rural community in Guatemala.  We want to make peanut butter and we have our first peanut harvest.  We find that it takes forever to remove the shells.  Can someone help me with a design for a machine to remove the shells?  It does not need to handle high volumes since we are a small operation. We can even sort the nuts from the shells ourselves.  Something simple that removes the shell without destroying the peanut.

Thanks,  Matt C.

The future of urban framing - research help

I am currently researching vertical farming and urban agriculture practices in regard to the role of urban design for my dissertation. As part of this research I am conducting interviews with a mixture of professionals who have insight into urban design practices, specifically urban greening, and vertical urban farming. I am looking to speak to innovators, architects, farmers, ecologists and people who work on the policy surrounding the implementation of urban agriculture and greening projects.

I am looking to build a cheap solar dehydrator!!

I have looked on a few different websites and have read numerous pages on ideas for the Solar Dehydrator that I am looking to make. I wanted to get the communities ideas and suggestions before I commit to one single style!

I am looking to make one as inexpensive as possible, and hopefully mostly out of wood as I do not have access to a wielder, nor am I one myself!

Thank you for all the help and I look forward to the great ideas!!!!!

Peace

Pollination

Can I pick a flower from my pumpkin plant and save it for future hand pollination?

Grasshoppers are devouring every new flower that shows up on my pumpkin plants. I was hoping to pick a flower and keep it for pollination when the opposite sex flower opens. If it is possible to do this, how would I keep the flower safe? How long can I keep it for it to still be viable? Does anyone have any reliable resources or links they could send me to learn more?

how do I search for/find the motor or gear reducer that I need for root washer?

We have everything seemingly ready for our washer except the motor. We have a 1/2 hp 1725 rpm motor, bit no gear reducer, and I'm really stumped on how to search for and find one that will be compatible with our motor (image attached). Likewise, I don't know what search terms to use to find a pre-assembled motor+gear reducer, and to know that I am purchasing what I need.

The info on this page is already giving me more than I had to go on before, but I'm a total motor novice. Any advice?

Thanks!

What is your current thermometer missing?

Hi everyone, I'm part of a hardware startup called Thermodo - we've built a tiny electrical thermometer for your mobile device that let's you measure the temperature - right where you are. I'm here at FarmHack as many of the Thermodo users are farmers or working in agronomy and we're currently seeking insights in how we can better serve farmers with our product and companion app. And apart from close dialogue with our current users, I wanted to check if any of you here at FarmHack would be interested in sharing what features in such an app/device would be helpful for you as a farmer?
