Looking for stale-bedding / occultation / tarping advice

I'm looking into using the tarping method popularized most recently by Jean-Martin Fortier in The Market Gardener to help with weed pressure in our permanent raised beds, and was hoping to get some practical advice on materials, timing, and effectiveness from someone that's actually tried it. I have a few questions/ideas:

Just curious: would you add a set of welded coulters to front frame if you were using this drill to plant into heavy residue?

So, I'm definitely into this idea of creating rather than expending mass amounts of money on a manufactured no-till drill. But the thing I can't get my head around is how to create a functional drill that moves the heavy amounts of residue (thick thatch that's needed to suppress weeds in an organic systems) aside or cutting into those layer prior to opening up that v-shaped furrow for the seed with your disc harrow blades. Would it be reasonable to you to weld a separate frame that contains arms for coulter blades to bolt into?

USDA Innovations Challenge

Hey everyone,

Just a short intro, I basically know nothing much about farming except that its a pretty data-driven and specialized practice with a wide range of different kinds of farming. I'm a web developer/CS student whose had several web apps under my belt (see my github: github.com/mding5692) and am working on an online hackathon by the USDA called the USDA Innovations Challenge (http://usdaapps.devpost.com/) and am working with a professor from North Caroline State University who specializes in plants as well several other devs.

Zeroing problem and ratio problem

I noticed sometimes when I zero the scale and have something on it that it will sometimes take a portion of that weight and zero it as well. Is that just a weird fluke or have you noticed this too? Also, I found that sometimes when the weight is shifted on the deck a little that it activates the ratioBlownOut function and it won't go away
